Library Quest: Southglade Park
Another day another library. This is by far the smallest I’ve been to yet. The Soutglade Park library (closed on Tuesday’s as I found out on Tuesday) is about the size of a six-a-side football pitch. I know this because I lifted the Southglade Park library off Google maps and laid it over the Six-a-side pitches that the City Council runs just to the north.
On the Wednesday when I went in there was a lot of activity. The space is nicely laid out with staff desk just beyond the door, with a sort of welcoming foyer/reading area before you get to anything that could be accused of being a gatekeeper. At the back there were a number of workstation with young adults and older helpers working on careers stuff like CV writing and applications. A meeting room was occupied with the same. I took up residence near the front door next to a rack of well thumbed Daily Mail newspapers screaming “WE’RE BEING BETRAYED ON BREXIT!!!” type headlines.
Before long, a lot of mum’s and toddlers started to congregate around some comfy seating in a brightly colours children’s reading area. I have since learned that this was “Totstime” for the under 5s. Songs were sung. It was damn cute. One of the songs was about “singing in the library” which is so incredibly meta I can’t handle it.
Parking at the library is very good, it is actually right next door to a City run gym where I’ve done a couple of “Fight Klub” bag boxing/aerobics classes, the pool has a water slide, so this space might become a useful workspace away from home prior to a training class, though my class is on a Tuesday and the library is closed on Tuesday.
Today’s thumbnail is of Southglade Park Library frontage taken by me.
