Makevember Strategy #makevember no.2
So another Makevember blog. This year I was not feeling it, I wasn’t feeling ready or willing to make in November. Work life is currently fairly hard and any effort spent on stuff that isn’t work feels very wasted somehow, like I’m finding distraction. I’d hate for people to think of Makevember as distraction. So a big part of it this year for me is REAL LIMITS. Limits on time and limits on scope. Last year I’d have a wild idea and the thing wasn’t DONE until it was done so to speak. This year I’ve taken a calmer more methodically planned approach and I spend a good 10 to 15 mins every day thinking about todays or future makevembers. How can I break them down into little 5 to 30 minute makes that I can achieve and share the results of? Also what areas am I neglecting in my making? You might have seen that 3 or 4 of my first 7 makes are laser cutter related… but wait, aren’t you Mr Laser? Well, not really no, I sell them but I don’t really use them very often. Making some laser cut jewellery really was an eye opener for me and really helped me think about what some of my customers actually face when they make!
So I think I’ve decided I am going to try and do a blog every day. I really hope some people will read it, but if they don’t I think I’m finally okay with that and here is why. I really want to blog more, but what I really mean by that is blog better and be read, in order to share my ideas and yes, get some attention I suppose.
To that end I’m going to set myself little time limits on blogging, just getting the ideas down on the computer and published. No revisions, no second thoughts and most importantly a time limit. Something that bugs me about television shows like Time Team or Mythbusters or whatever, the presenter will turn to the camera and say “and we only have 3 days to do this” and I’m always thinking “because that’s the extent of the budget!”
With blogging I’m going to set myself time limits. 10 minutes, 40 minutes etc and see what comes out the other side. This one is a 10 minute one. I hope it wasn’t a drag!
