Practice & Performance. #makevember no.8
When we hear a musician playing scales, or warming up their instrument we don’t judge how well they are going to play in the concert. When you are invited to the band sound check, you don’t go and write a review saying “well this band was awful, I heard the sound check.” In that moment before the concert begins and the orchestra are warming up and it’s just a noise, until the conductor taps her baton, we don’t say, “the philharmonic couldn’t play in time with each other!” This is because we understand what is the performance and what is practice.
Practice gives us an opportunity to fail, mess up and make mistakes. With out that there is no improvement and no growth. Messing up in a practice is not only okay, its good.
#Makevember is practice. Its like lifting weights or playing scales, or reciting multiplication tables, or flying a simulator. In order to do something very well, we should do it many times, so we must practice. #Makevember is an opportunity for us to show each other our practice, failures and all. So please, lets stop pretending its a performance, and treat it for what it is, training for something better later, this is not the performance. Be kind to yourself.
